Drawn from the Sutta Nipāta, the oldest surviving collection of Buddhist scriptures, this work transforms selected discourses into instrumental music by reflecting both the meaning of the verses and their original poetic rhythm.

The opening piece, "The Rhinoceros Horn," is based on one of the most well-known discourses in the collection. The text is written entirely in verse according to the rules of an ancient poetic metre belonging to the Triṣṭubh tradition, with each stanza concluding with the refrain: "Wander alone like a rhinoceros."

Particular care has been taken to preserve the original poetic metre as faithfully as possible while shaping it into a coherent and expressive musical work.
